TIG welding is one of the most skillful welding methods, giving you higher quality welds with a cleaner bead. It’s great for welding thinner metals and small welds.

TOP 5 TIG welders of 2022

To use a TIG welder, you need to be able to hold the welding gun steadily and not get distracted by all the other equipment around you. With so many TIG welders on the market, we’ve listed our favorite 8 AC/DC TIG welders at a range of different power outputs, so that you can choose one that’s right for you.

Best MIG Welder Comparison

1. PrimeWeld TIG225X

PRIMEWELD TIG225X 225 Amp IGBT AC DC Tig/Stick Welder with Pulse CK17 Flex Torch and Cable 3 Year Warranty

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 / 5)
as of January 16, 2024 5:18 pm

The PrimeWeld TIG 225X is our top pick for the best TIG welder. This welder has a high power rating and produces great welds. It’s available at under $1000, so don’t let the low price put you off! These tend to sell out fast when they’re in stock, so try and get your hands on them while you can.

The 225X is our top pick under $1000 for welders with a maximum output of 225A. On 220V, it can weld up to 1/4″ aluminum and 3/8″ steel. We’ve seen this on 225A on 3/8″ steel and the welds are smooth and great quality. The duty cycle is great at 40%@225A. You can also easily switch to stick mode to weld up to 1/2″ steel and is capable of 7018 and 6013.
There’s lot of knobs on the front to fine tune your adjustments and the power output appears on a digital display. The knobs feel good to use, we find them easier to use than scrolling through digital menus, easier when wearing gloves and probably more reliable than a microprocessor, but it’s personal choice.

PrimeWeld is an up-and-coming brand that hasn't yet proven itself as reliable as some of its competitors. That being said, most people seem to be happy with the performance of this equipment. We've spoken to their customer service department, and they responded almost immediately—with a three-year warranty! Inside the box, you'll find all the necessary tools—including a CK17 Torch.

Overall this machine is really hard to overlook, especially at its price. It’s perfect for a hobby welder getting into TIG and even professional welders have started using this machine.

Pros
  • Smooth welds up to 3/8″ steel
  • Great value for money
  • Includes CK17 Torch
  • HF start
  • 3 year warranty
  • Dual voltage
  • 2T/4T button
  • Higher amperage than other budget TIG welders
Cons
  • The fan is quite loud
  • TIG pedal low quality
  • No lift start
  • Long-term reliability unknown

2. Everlast PowerTIG 255EXT

2022 Everlast PowerTIG 255EXT Digital AC / DC TIG Stick Pulse Inverter Welder 110v/220v Dual Voltage

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.7 / 5)
as of January 16, 2024 5:18 pm

This machine is powerful, accurate and affordable. It has many features including a programmable memory to save your favorite settings, pulse TIG, and 4 wave forms: Sine, Triangular, Soft Square and Advanced Square Wave. The plastic cover on the front to protect it from dust and spatter is a nice touch.

It comes with a 12.5ft 9 series air-cooled torch and a 12.5ft 20 series water-cooled torch. The machine has a built-in power receptacle for PowerCool 300 water cooler, but you can’t use the 20 series torch unless you buy a separate water cooler for it.
This probably isn’t the best unit if you’re a beginners. The user interface is a little intimidating if you’re new to welding and you probably need all the features and power. But if you’re looking for a quality machine but don’t want to pay the price for red or blue, then this is one to look at. Everlast also do a 325EXT welder for anyone looking for ultimate power.

Pros
  • HF and lift start
  • 5-year warranty
  • High amperage
  • It comes to two quality torches
  • Programmable memory
  • 4 waveforms
  • 2T/4T modes
  • Easy start-up feature
  • High duty cycle
  • Receptacle for water cooler
Cons
  • Need cooler for 20 series torch
  • The user interface is a bit complicated

3. Lincoln Square Wave TIG 200

Lincoln Electric Square Wave TIG 200 TIG Welder, K5126-1

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.6 / 5)
as of January 16, 2024 5:18 pm

The Lincoln Welders 'Easy to use' Welder is a popular choice with lots of different skill levels thanks to its easy-to-use user interface and exceptional quality. Made in the USA, this welding machine is built to last and will stand the test of time.

Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use interface
  • Comes with everything you need to get started apart from the gas bottle
  • Stick welding capability
  • Dual voltage
  • Only 46lb
Cons
  • More expensive than Chinese manufactured welders
  • Arc starts begin at 25 amps. You can set it below this but it starts at 25 and then drops down, so you need to be careful when welding very thin metal.

4. AHP AlphaTIG 203XI

2018 AHP AlphaTIG 200X 200 Amp IGBT AC DC Tig/Stick Welder with PULSE 110v 220v 3 YEARS WARRANTY

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.6 / 5)
as of January 16, 2024 5:18 pm

The AlphaTIG 203XI is one of the best value welders on the market that allows you to perform quality TIG and Stick welds without spending too much money.

The new AlphaTIG has a quieter fan and features a digital LCD display with their new rapid set function. Rapid set allows you to input the metal and tungsten thickness, then start TIG welding using the touchpad on the front of the unit.
The digital interface also allows you to easily switch between AC and DC, run with or without pulse, 2T or 4T, HF start or lift arc, and more. It doesn’t have a CK17 torch like Weldpro, but the digital interface is really well designed, we find it the most intuitive digital display of the TIG welders under $1000, making it an easier setup for beginners and a great choice for an entry-level AC/DC TIG welder. It’s also slightly cheaper which is why it just gets the nod above it.

Pros
  • Excellent value for money
  • High duty cycle
  • Dual voltage
  • HF and lift start
  • Stick welding capability
  • 2T/4T function
  • 3 year warranty
Cons
  • The digital display isn’t for everyone
  • Chinese manufactured
  • No CK17 torch

5. WeldPro Digital 200

Weldpro Digital TIG 200GD AC DC 200 Amp Tig/Stick Welder with Pulse CK 17 Worldwide Superflex Torch 3 Year Warranty Dual Voltage 220V/110V welding machine

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.6 / 5)
as of January 16, 2024 5:18 pm

Weldpro have been around for several years now, and they’ve proved a lot of people wrong. This inverter machine is super-lightweight and well built, but it doesn’t have a reputation for breaking—it’s slightly more expensive than AHP, but you do get a better torch, so there’s not much between them. At a similar price you can also opt for the Primeweld 225X and get an extra 25A amperage.

Pros
  • Smooth welds up to 3/8″ steel
  • Great value for money
  • Includes CK17 Torch
  • HF start
  • 3-year warranty
  • Dual voltage
  • 2T/4T button
Cons
  • The digital display isn’t for everyone
  • Chinese manufactured
  • No lift start
